The following blog is a guest post via Ticket Evolution, one of our sponsors for Hackathon: TTX. We’re very happy to have them on board and hope you enjoy learning more about their services and insight into how you can utilize their technology at our hackathon.

The rise of the experience economy has given new wings to the concept of event-based travel. Gone are the days of travelers landing in a destination without a clue what to do – events themselves are becoming the destination. Just ask the 32 million Americans who traveled an average 900 miles to attend a music festival last year, or the 600,000 out-of-towners who descend on New York for 2 weeks around Labor Day for the US Open, or the 3.5 million fans who flock to Florida or Arizona for MLB spring training games in March.

The travel industry has already adapted to integrate disparate booking content into one place, whether it be air, hotel, tours, transfers or rental cars. Given the booming popularity of live entertainment, why not event tickets?

The Ticket Evolution API opens up the possibility to connect the experience economy to the travel industry. The event ticketing industry’s first distributed commerce API enables developers to access to over 80k events worldwide with transactional capabilities to over $2B worth of concert, sports, theatre inventory & more. Just ask the over 300 companies that have already built something using the Ticket Evolution API.

In 2016, Ticket Evolution took a first step in tackling the travel concept by creating the Events 365 Red App. By integrating the Ticket Evolution API with the Sabre Red Workspace Developer Toolkit, travel agents can now search and book event tickets that are integrated directly into their client’s PNRs via the Sabre Red Workspace. During the 2016 Appy Awards at Sabre’s annual TTX conference, the Events 365 Red App brought home “Best In Show”, triumphing over 8 other developers.

On awarding the “Judge’s Choice for Best Application” to Events 365, Jay Jones, Sabre travel Network’s SVP of Americas, stated, “We applaud Ticket Evolution for bringing their innovations to the travel industry at a time when the focus is shifting from selling itineraries to selling experiences.”

Ticket Evolution welcomes Hackathon:TTX participants to interact with the Sabre platform and our versatile API to take the event-based travel concept even further into the future.

The Ticket Evolution API allows users to:

  • Search for events by: Category, Performer, Venue, Geolocation, Postal Code, City/State, or time of day
  • Filter tickets by: Section, Row, Format, Price
  • Display seating charts for each event
  • Receive notifications of order progress from placement through fulfillment.

Ruby and PHP Client libraries are available and open source.

About Ticket Evolution:

Ticket Evolution operates the premiere B2B exchange for the ticketing industry with over $2B in sports, theatre, concert, etc. inventory running through our platform at any given time. Our API is the engine powering inventory into over 300 of the most popular ticketing/travel websites/apps while also providing the backend real-time execution, clearing, fulfillment & settlement of that inventory across multiple distribution platforms. If you have ever bought a ticket to a sporting event online, or called up a broker for seats to a sold out show, chances are our systems were used in between.
