The workflow to search for and book air travel usually starts with an air shopping request and response, followed by a click to purchase option. It is at the click to purchase option where a workflow decision is made to take the traveler directly to the booking path or revalidate the itinerary to recheck the price and availability before going directly to the booking path.

Revalidating if an itinerary is bookable and what the price is before providing to a traveler just got easier. We announced recently new workflow options to perform an availability and pricing check, without decrementing airline inventory.

Option 1 – use Revalidate Itinerary to check and validate the price and availability for a given itinerary, at any time and without holding airline inventory.

Sample use case: Manage the sell failure process and recheck if option is available

Possible outcome:

  • Same option is available at same price
  • Same option is available at a different price (higher or lower)
  • The option is no longer available

Option 2 – use Bargain Finder Max to check and validate the price and availability for a given itinerary, at any time and without holding airline inventory, with the possibility to search for alternative itinerary options.

Sample use case: Re-offer option or provide an upsell opportunity

Possible outcome:

  • Same option is available at same price
  • Same option is available at a different price (higher or lower)
  • The option is no longer available
  • Alternate options are offered for comparison and upsell

Both options are available in XML or REST. For more details, refer to the following release notes:
